Dr. Francis provides not only an insider’s view of what has gone wrong in the health industry but also offers an important and practical road map back to safe and sane psychiatry. Dr. Frances still believes that psychiatry is an essential profession that is extremely effective when done well. But when it makes patients of people who are “normal” and ignores those who are really sick, that’s when it’s time to take stand. And that time is now.
Allen Frances, M.D. is currently professor emeritus and former chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC.
